Ena’s Driving School is dedicated to assisting unemployed / low income individuals in New York City. Participants must already possess a Class D license to embark on new careers in commercial driving. The program comprises four weeks of comprehensive training, involving both classroom sessions and behind-the-wheel practice. After completion, students take the NYS Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) road test. Once licensed, graduates are provided with job opportunities through our vast network of employers across the city.
Who are Our Trainees?
Our trainees are unemployed New Yorkers who face significant barriers in kickstarting their careers. However, upon completing our program, they become skilled, CDL-credentialed professionals, fully equipped to enter the workforce which may include companies such as MTA or the Department of Transportation earning a beginner’s salary of $80,000+
Enas Driving School’s CDL training program spans four weeks, with one week focused on in-class instruction and three weeks dedicated to hands-on driving practice. Trainees receive comprehensive training in map reading, maneuvering large vehicles, defensive driving, and other essential skills for the job. After the training course, graduates benefit from two years of job placement assistance, career counseling, and ongoing support as they progress in their careers. It’s important to note that all our training programs are offered free of charge. However, trainees are responsible for covering their personal expenses during the training period and job search, as we are unable to provide stipends.
Job Placement After Training Upon successfully passing the road test, graduates are placed in various driving positions, including school buses, coach buses, Access-A-Ride vehicles, and trucks. Our extensive employer network often offers attractive benefits and competitive starting wages to our graduates. The jobs may involve early morning starts and extensive travel throughout the five boroughs. While some local bus positions may require lifting up to 70 lbs, there are also opportunities available that do not involve heavy lifting.
The road test consists of three sections. In the first section, the participant must complete The PreTrip Inspection which includes all interior and exterior parts of the vehicle. The second sectioncontains of vehicle maneuvers which includes, straight backing, off set right and parallel parking.
The final section entails on the road driving. This is a total of135 minutes of continuous testing.
